Round 9 Review – NPL Men’s NSW

Let’s take a look back at all the action from Round 9 of the National Premier Leagues NSW competition.
APIA 4 v Western Sydney Wanderers 1 @ Lambert Park – Full Match Report and Highlights
APIA Leichhardt climbed to second on the ladder with a dominant 4–1 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers at Lambert Park, extending their winning streak to six matches.
After surviving early pressure from the visitors, APIA took control through a Presley Ortiz brace, including a composed opener and a close-range finish before halftime.
Max Court added a third shortly after the break following a slick team move, while the Wanderers briefly responded through Johnny Pavlovic.
However, APIA maintained their authority throughout, with Michael Konestabo sealing the result in stoppage time to cap off an emphatic and well-rounded team performance.
Manly United 1 v Sydney FC 1 @ Cromer Park – Full Match Report and Highlights
Manly United FC and Sydney FC played out a 1–1 draw at Cromer Park, with late drama denying the hosts all three points.
Manly were the stronger side for much of the match, creating the better chances and taking a deserved lead just before halftime through a deflected strike from Darcy Burgess.
They continued to press in the second half but were unable to convert key opportunities, leaving the door open for Sydney FC. Despite struggling to break down a resolute Manly defence, the Sky Blues found a stoppage-time equaliser when Mitchell Glasson drove into the box and calmly finished, rescuing a valuable point from an otherwise underwhelming performance.
Sydney Olympic 1 v Sutherland Sharks 2 @ Belmore Sports Ground – Full Match Report and Highlights
Sutherland Sharks secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Sydney Olympic at Belmore Sports Ground, with a late Thijs Van Amerongen header sealing their first away win over Olympic in years and extending the hosts’ winless run to six matches.
The Sharks started brightly and took the lead through a stunning Tariq Maia volley in the 15th minute, before Olympic responded just before halftime via Yuto Fujita.
Both sides pushed for a winner in a tightly contested second half, with chances at either end, but it was Sutherland who struck late, as Van Amerongen rose to head home in the 88th minute and clinch all three points.
SD Raiders FC 1 v Wollongong Wolves 1 @ Ernie Smith Reserve – Full Match Report and Highlights
SD Raiders FC and Wollongong Wolves FC played out an evenly contested 1–1 draw at Ernie Smith Reserve, with both sides showing attacking intent and creating chances throughout a physical and tense match.
The Raiders struck first in the seventh minute through Martin Fernandez, only for Wollongong to respond around the half-hour mark after Lachlan Scott capitalised on a goalkeeping error.
Both teams came close to finding a winner in the second half, with near-misses from Charlie Rigg and Felipe D’Agostini keeping the score level.
Despite late intensity and flashes of brilliance, neither side could break the deadlock, with the point extending SD Raiders’ unbeaten run to three games while Wollongong remain competitive in the NPL Men’s NSW season.
NWS Spirit FC 2 v UNSW FC 1 @ Christie Park – Full Match Report and Highlights
NWS Spirit FC held on for a hard-fought 2–1 victory over UNSW FC at Christie Park, coming through a fast-paced and physical contest with some late drama.
Spirit took control in the first half, with Kosta Petratos converting a penalty in the 38th minute and then setting up a second goal minutes later following a slick move involving Shoki Yoshida and Riku Kobayashi. UNSW had their chances early and late, with Jack Fulton testing the Spirit defence and Sean Woods pulling one back in stoppage time, but Spirit’s dominance and resilience throughout the match ensured they held on to claim all three points.
St George City 2 v Blacktown City 2 @ Penshurst Park – Full Match Report and Highlights
St George City and Blacktown City FC played out an entertaining 2–2 draw on Easter Saturday in Round 9 of the NSW NPL Men’s competition, with both sides having their moments across an evenly matched contest.
Blacktown took the lead through Maksim Jez in the 41st minute, only for St George to respond early in the second half via a set-piece finish from Ahmad Taleb. Blacktown regained the advantage through Caleb Jackson-Brown in the 77th minute, but Stefano Rossello’s late individual effort secured a final equaliser for the hosts in the 85th minute.
Despite chances at either end, neither team could find a winner, leaving both to share the spoils in a thrilling encounter.
Rockdale Ilinden 3 v St George FC 0 @ Ilinden Sports Centre – Full Match Report and Highlights
Rockdale Ilinden delivered a dominant first-half performance to secure a convincing 3–0 derby win over St George FC at Ilinden Sports Centre, with the match turning decisively after a 25th-minute red card to Evan Souris.
Ollie Wiggin opened the scoring soon after, before Moudi Najjar and Mathieu Cordier added late first-half goals to put the result beyond doubt.
Despite St George showing some fight and creating a handful of chances, denied by a resolute Rockdale defence led by Lachlan Griffiths, they struggled to break through, while a waved-away penalty appeal compounded their frustration.
With the second half lacking the same intensity, Rockdale comfortably saw out the result to claim bragging rights and three valuable points, while St George slumped to a third straight defeat.
Sydney United 58 1 v Marconi 0 @ Sydney United Sports Centre – Full Match Report and Highlights
Sydney United 58 continued their historic start to the season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Marconi Stallions in the Traditional Derby, securing a ninth consecutive win to equal the best-ever start in the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW era.
After a cautious first half with limited clear chances for either side, United lifted after the break and found the decisive moment in the 58th minute, when Koya Nakano glanced home a Mason Wells corner.
The hosts controlled much of the second half, creating further opportunities to extend their lead, while Marconi’s late push for an equaliser fell short.
The win also secured Sydney United 58 the inaugural Ron Corry Cup and saw them move five points clear at the top of the table, with a chance to break the record outright this weekend.
