Round 18 Preview – NPL Men’s NSW

Following a blistering Round 17, the NPL Men’s NSW competition is set to light up another weekend with a stacked fixture list filled with goals, drama, and high-stakes football across the board.
With ladder positions tightening, finals races heating up, and relegation battles intensifying, every match this weekend carries major implications.
Sydney FC vs NWS Spirit FC
7:30pm, Friday 5 June – Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre
Sydney FC will be desperate to respond after a difficult Round 17 as they kick off the weekend against NWS Spirit FC.
The Sky Blues were handed a tough 6-0 defeat against academy rivals Western Sydney Wanderers last week and will be aiming to quickly reset their season with a strong performance in front of goal.
They come up against a Spirit side also searching for consistency, with no win since Round 13 and currently on a three-match losing streak. However, last week’s performance against second-placed APIA Leichhardt—where they were seconds away from a point before a late concession—showed real resilience and attacking intent.
With both sides needing momentum for their respective finals pushes, expect a fired-up contest to open the round.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Sydney United 58
3:00pm, Saturday 6 June – Wanderers Football Park
Western Sydney Wanderers will look to extend one of the most dominant runs in the competition when they host Sydney United 58.
The Wanderers have been in ruthless form, scoring 11 goals without reply across their last two matches, including a statement 6-0 win over Sydney FC last weekend, where Awan Lual stole the spotlight with four goals.
Zooming out further, the Wanderers are now unbeaten in five straight matches and building serious momentum at the perfect stage of the season.
Sydney United 58, meanwhile, have hit a patch of inconsistency, losing three of their last five games and struggling to replicate their early-season dominance. With the Premiership race tightening, they’ll need a response — and fast — against one of the league’s in-form sides.
SD Raiders FC vs UNSW FC
5:00pm, Saturday 6 June – Ernie Smith Reserve
SD Raiders FC return to action after a disrupted schedule when they face a red-hot UNSW FC outfit.
The Raiders have been forced into back-to-back postponements but were previously building solid momentum with draws against Sutherland Sharks and NWS Spirit, plus earlier wins that showcased their attacking potential.
UNSW FC, however, arrive in arguably their best run of form this season — three straight wins, three consecutive clean sheets, and victories over top-six opposition. Their defensive structure and game management have become a major feature of their rise.
With both promoted sides from 2025 continuing to adapt to life at NPL level, this matchup has all the ingredients of a breakout performance from either side.
APIA Leichhardt FC vs Manly United FC
6:00pm, Saturday 6 June – Lambert Park
APIA Leichhardt FC continue their Premiership push as they host Manly United in a blockbuster at Lambert Park.
The reigning Champions produced a dramatic late winner last week, with Presley Ortiz striking in the 95th minute to secure maximum points and keep their title charge alive.
APIA are locked neck-and-neck with Marconi Stallions at the top of the table — separated only by goal difference — making every point critical from here on.
Manly United enter this clash with mixed but competitive form, recording two wins, a draw, and two losses in their last five outings. They’ve already shown they can match APIA, holding them to a 2-2 draw earlier this season, and will be eager to repeat that performance or better.
St George FC vs Sutherland Sharks FC
6:30pm, Saturday 6 June – Barton Park
St George FC’s search for a breakthrough continues as they host a confident Sutherland Sharks outfit.
The home side are enduring a difficult stretch, still winless since Round 6 and slipping further down the ladder despite competitive performances.
In contrast, Sutherland Sharks arrive full of belief after a massive 1-0 victory over Sydney United 58 last week — a result that has pushed them to within touching distance of the finals places.
With momentum on one side and urgency on the other, this clash at Barton Park shapes as a crucial battle at both ends of the table.
St George City FA vs Sydney Olympic FC
7:15pm, Saturday 6 June – Penshurst Park
St George City FA take on Sydney Olympic in a Saturday night clash full of intrigue at Penshurst Park.
City have hit form at the right time, winning three of their last five matches, including a crucial derby victory over St George FC.
Sydney Olympic are also building momentum, coming off an important win over Blacktown City followed by qualification for the Australia Cup Round of 32. Confidence is growing as they look to climb away from danger, sitting five points off second last with a game in hand.
Both sides enter this one with something to prove — and plenty to gain.
Blacktown City FC vs Rockdale Ilinden FC
3:00pm, Sunday 7 June – Landen Stadium
Blacktown City host Rockdale Ilinden in a high-pressure clash with major ladder implications.
City are fighting to escape the relegation zone, sitting second-bottom but still within striking distance of safety in a congested lower half.
Rockdale, meanwhile, have endured a challenging stretch of form with losses to UNSW FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, before stabilising slightly with a 1-1 draw against Marconi Stallions.
Both sides will see this as a critical opportunity to reset their seasons in what looms as a tightly contested encounter.
Marconi Stallions FC vs Wollongong Wolves FC
3:00pm, Sunday 7 June – Marconi Stadium
Top-of-the-table Marconi Stallions close out Round 18 when they host Wollongong Wolves in a heavyweight Sunday clash.
Marconi continue to set the pace in the competition, unbeaten since Round 9 and showing the consistency of true Premiership contenders.
However, they face a Wolves side that — until last week — were on a remarkable 12-match unbeaten run of their own before a narrow defeat to UNSW FC.
With both teams boasting strong form lines and big-game credentials, this fixture has all the makings of a potential season-defining clash.
