It’s been confirmed that Manly United Head Coach Adam Griffiths will leave the Northern Beaches club at the end of the 2022 #NPLNSW Men’s season after securing a role as a co-Assistant Coach under Mark Rudan with the Western Sydney Wanderers A-League men’s team.

Griffiths will join Tomi Vidovic who was also appointed the club’s new assistant coach.

Griffiths spent 6 years at Manly United, coaching in the senior program including the last two seasons as the Head Coach of the Manly United first grade side, which is currently right in the middle of the race for the NPL NSW Men’s title with four rounds remaining.

After taking over the reins from Paul Dee two seasons ago, Griffiths has helped steer the club through the COVID disruption and to the point where a first Premiership in 27 years is within touching distance.

“Adam has done a fantastic job as Head Coach at Manly United over the last two seasons and although he will be missed, we wish him every success at the Wanderers,” said Manly United CEO David Mason. “

He is held in such esteem at Manly that we had already agreed that Adam would continue in the role for 2023 and 2024 but we understand the opportunity that has presented itself for Adam.

“We pride ourselves on providing an environment and culture that allows players and coaches to be the best they can possibly be, and we will celebrate his move the same way we have with the multitude of former players and coaches now plying their trade in the A-League, W-League and beyond.

“Hopefully one day the Australian Football Pyramid will mature to the point where those opportunities can be open to players and coaches at all football clubs.”

Griffiths, who coached the U18s and U20s before working as an assistant coach under Paul Dee, leaves Manly United with a heavy heart but a steely determination to leave behind silverware for the club before he departs for the Wanderers.

“I am deeply indebted to Manly United for the platform they have given me to grow as a coach and a person and although this is a great opportunity to join the Western Sydney Wanderers it was not an easy or straightforward decision,” Griffiths said.

“I know I am leaving the best NPL club in NSW with a culture, environment and facilities that are second to none and I may be leaving Cromer Park to step into the A-League but I will always consider it my home.

“The players, coaches, staff, Board and volunteers have been amazing and work together to make it an enjoyable professional environment and I am so determined to help us finish the season off and lift some silverware because the club deserves it.

“Importantly the playing group has been amazing this season and deserve the success that could be a few weeks away if we continue to perform to the best of our ability.”

While the Manly United Board will start the process of making the appropriate decisions for 2023 and beyond the focus of the football club will remain firmly on 2022 and the opportunity that is in front of the club.

“We are thrilled that Adam has been offered a wonderful opportunity, but we are even more thrilled that he has worked with the Wanderers to ensure he can finish off the 2022 season with Manly United,” Mason said. “It says a lot about his character, his feelings for the club and determination to succeed that he will see out the season and push for the NPL silverware.”

“I’d also like to thank Wanderers coach Mark Rudan and CEO Scott Hudson for working with Adam and Manly United to allow that to happen.”
