Round 2 Preview – NPL Men’s NSW

Round 2 of the National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW competition looms as an important early-season checkpoint, with momentum, confidence and bragging rights all on the line across a stacked weekend of fixtures.
A full slate of Saturday action is complemented by two intriguing Sunday afternoon clashes, as early pacesetters look to consolidate their starts and others search for a quick response after mixed opening-round fortunes.
Here’s what’s on offer in Round 2.
WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS FC vs SYDNEY FC
3:00pm, Saturday 14 February 2026 – Wanderers Football Park
Round 2 gets underway with a familiar rivalry, as Western Sydney Wanderers FC host Sydney FC in a clash between two of the competition’s most exciting youth-driven squads.
Sydney FC opened their campaign with a gritty 3-2 victory over SD Raiders FC on Friday night, showing attacking flair and composure in patches. Goals from Reef Farias and Mitchell Glasson gave the Sky Blues early control, before conceding just before the break.
Nickolas Alfaro restored a two-goal buffer in the second half, though another late concession ensured a tense finish before Sydney FC held firm to claim all three points.
Western Sydney Wanderers, meanwhile, were edged out 2-0 by Rockdale Ilinden in their season opener, undone by two quickfire late goals against last year’s Grand Finalists. The hosts will be without attacker Jai Rose following his red card in that defeat.
Matches between these two sides were tight affairs in 2025, playing out a 0-0 draw in Round 9 before the Wanderers claimed a narrow 2-1 win in Round 24.
Back on home turf for the first time this season, the Wanderers will be eager to make a statement against their crosstown rivals.
APIA LEICHHARDT FC vs NWS SPIRIT FC
4:30pm, Saturday 14 February 2026 – Lambert Park
Two of last season’s heavyweights collide on Saturday afternoon, as APIA Leichhardt host premiers NWS Spirit FC at Lambert Park.
APIA suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Marconi Stallions in Round 1, conceding twice before Oscar Gonzalez’s late strike gave the reigning champions hope of a comeback that ultimately fell short.
NWS Spirit, by contrast, began their title defence with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sutherland Sharks. Former Shark Kosta Petratos proved decisive, scoring the winner shortly after the half-hour mark.
Spirit enjoyed the upper hand in this matchup last season, winning both regular-season meetings without conceding a goal as they finished first, with APIA close behind in second.
With contrasting starts to 2026, both sides know the importance of three points early in the campaign.
SD RAIDERS FC vs SYDNEY OLYMPIC FC
5:00pm, Saturday 14 February 2026 – Ernie Smith Reserve
SD Raiders FC continue their search for a first NPL Men’s NSW victory when they host Sydney Olympic FC on Saturday evening.
The newly promoted Raiders showed plenty of fight in their opening-round loss to Sydney FC, recovering from an early two-goal deficit through strikes from Luka Knezevic and Martin Fernandez, but ultimately fell 3-2.
Sydney Olympic also endured a difficult return to the top flight, going down 3-1 to Blacktown City FC. Despite the result, winger Daniel Wong marked his Olympic debut with a well-taken goal.
Both teams will be desperate to respond in Round 2 as they look to climb away from the bottom end of the ladder.
SUTHERLAND SHARKS FC vs SYDNEY UNITED 58
5:30pm, Saturday 14 February 2026 – Seymour Shaw Park
Sutherland Sharks return to Seymour Shaw Park on Saturday evening, welcoming Sydney United 58 as they chase their first win of the season.
Sharks coach David Perkovic tasted defeat in his first match in charge, falling 1-0 to former club NWS Spirit. However, this fixture marks Sutherland’s first NPL Men’s NSW outing at their recently redeveloped home venue.
Sydney United 58 arrive full of confidence after a stunning 5-2 comeback win over UNSW FC. Michael Krslovic stole the headlines, coming off the bench to score a memorable hat-trick on his senior debut, while Tomislav Ozanic and Tomoki Wada also found the net.
Krslovic’s performance continued a strong run of form, having already impressed in the Australian Championship.
The sides shared the points in a dramatic 2-2 draw in Round 1 last season, before United 58 snatched a late winner in Round 16. Expect another tight and entertaining contest under lights.
BLACKTOWN CITY FC vs MANLY UNITED FC
7:00pm, Saturday 14 February 2026 – Landen Stadium
Something has to give when two opening-round winners collide, as Blacktown City FC host Manly United FC.
Manly began their season with a disciplined 1-0 win over St George City, with Max Martinello’s first-half strike proving decisive in Vladimir Knezevic’s competitive debut as head coach.
Blacktown City also started strongly, defeating Sydney Olympic 3-1. Goals from Nathan Grimaldi and Nikola Skataric set the tone before a Joshua Hong own goal extended the margin, despite a late consolation for the visitors.
Manly enjoyed success in this fixture last season, drawing 1-1 in Round 8 before claiming a thrilling 3-2 victory in Round 23.
Both sides will be keen to maintain their perfect starts and stake an early claim near the top of the table.
ST GEORGE CITY FA vs ST GEORGE FC
7:15pm, Saturday 14 February 2026 – Penshurst Park
Local bragging rights are on the line when St George City FA host St George FC in a fiery derby clash.
City were edged out 1-0 by Manly United in Round 1, but will look to respond against one of their fiercest rivals on home soil.
St George FC, meanwhile, enjoyed an emphatic start to the season with a 3-0 win over Wollongong Wolves. First-half goals from Jaden Casella and Christopher McStay laid the foundation, before Harrison Farrow added a late third off the bench.
The rivals shared the spoils in 2025, with one win apiece across their two meetings.
City will be eager to kick-start their campaign, while the Saints will aim to carry their early momentum forward.
WOLLONGONG WOLVES FC vs UNSW FC
3:00pm, Sunday 15 February 2026 – Macedonia Park
Wollongong Wolves and UNSW FC meet on Sunday afternoon, with both sides searching for their first points of 2026.
The Wolves endured a tough opening-round loss, falling 3-0 to St George FC after a slow start proved costly.
UNSW FC showed promise in their top-flight debut against Sydney United 58, leading the match twice through long-range strikes, including a spectacular effort from 2025 League Two Player of the Year Jyden Harb.
However, four unanswered goals saw UNSW leave empty-handed.
Harb returns to Wollongong this weekend, having played his junior football at the club before stints with South Coast Flame and now UNSW.
Both teams will be determined to get their season back on track.
ROCKDALE ILINDEN FC vs MARCONI STALLIONS FC
4:00pm, Sunday 15 February 2026 – Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre
Round 2 concludes with a blockbuster showdown, as Rockdale Ilinden FC host Marconi Stallions.
Marconi opened their campaign with a statement 2-1 win over APIA Leichhardt FC, with debutant Teng Kuol announcing himself in style by scoring twice, including a stunning long-range strike.
Rockdale Ilinden were equally composed in Round 1, claiming a 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers FC. Goals from Giorgio Speranza and captain Brendan Cholakian sealed the points.
The sides split their meetings last season, with Marconi winning 2-1 in Round 3 before Rockdale returned the favour with a 1-0 victory later in the year.
With both teams eyeing early momentum, expect another tense and high-quality encounter to close out the weekend.
