Round 5 of the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s U20 saw Manly United and Blacktown Spartans return to winning ways, whilst Bonnyrigg produced what will surely be one of the season’s most memorable results by hammering Blacktown City 4-0 at Lily’s Football Centre.
The match of the round saw Sydney United 58 entertain Sydney Olympic with the hosts desperate for their first win of the campaign.
Match of the Round
Sydney United 58 1-2 Sydney Olympic, Sunday 2.00pm at Sydney United Sports Centre
A brace from Adrian Vranic has helped Sydney Olympic to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sydney United 58 at Sydney United Sports Centre.
Vranic opened the scoring inside ten minutes after hammering home a rebound to give the visitors an early lead.
United pulled one back through Mark Rizoski after a sweeping counter attack but Olympic snatched the points midway through the second half when Vranic provided another clinical finish – his sixth of the season to give Olympic back to back wins for the first time this campaign.
Buoyed by their last minute comeback over Sutherland the previous weekend, Olympic started much the better of the two sides with Sebastian Malfara, Michael Loupis and Vranic combining for a series of early warning shots.
It didn’t take long for the breakthrough to arrive with Vranic finding the roof of the net on the second attempt after seeing his original shot parried by Gabriel Koliominos.
Having gone behind early and staring down the barrel of a fourth defeat in five matches, the hosts showed great character to drag themselves back into the contest and they forged a deserved equalizer when Rizoski applied the finishing touch to a well-constructed foray down the right wing.
Both sides struggled to make inroads in the final third after the break and although Davor Bajsic’s men showed flashes of attacking flair they met an Olympic rear-guard organised to the man.
And it was centre-half James Combes, one of the most pivotal cogs in this newfound defensive resilience, who nearly made an impact at the other end when his looping header crashed off the underside of the crossbar.
The visitors were growing in confidence and momentum after holding Sydney United 58 at arm’s length and they restored their lead fifteen minutes out from full-time after a sensational assist from Michael Loupis who sliced the United defence in half with a crude reverse pass, leaving Vranic with an easy finish.
The livewire forward nearly completed his second hat trick of the season after robbing United defender Joshua Briskovski in his own half but Koliominos was equal to Vranic’s curling effort.
Sydney United 58 mounted a series of aerial bombardments late on but Olympic held on for their second win of the season in a result that moves Harry Paras’ side within striking distance of the top six.

Saturday
Sutherland Sharks 2-1 Parramatta, Saturday 4.30pm at Seymour Shaw
Sutherland Sharks returned to winning ways with a 2-1 come from behind victory over Parramatta at Seymour Shaw.
Parramatta took a surprising lead in at half-time but Sutherland stormed home with Jack Press’ third goal in his last two and substitute Harry Sutherland’s first of the season five minutes from full-time.
The late heartbreak for Parramatta consigns Mark Zecchin’s side to their fourth consecutive defeat whilst Sutherland retain a position in the top sixth with their third victory of the campaign.
Blacktown Spartans 3-0 Rockdale City Suns, Saturday 5.00pm at Blacktown Football Park
Blacktown Spartans were too good for Rockdale City Suns at Blacktown Football Park, running out 3-0 winners to move back to second on the table.
Sellu Kamara put the hosts ahead in the first half before Alex Abdullah and Alex Mooy’s fourth of the season maintained Samuel Jacobs’ side’s perfect record at home.
Rockdale remain a point outside the top six despite the loss but with a pair of heavy defeats to Blacktown and Wollongong placing a significant dent in their for and against standing.
Sunday
Manly United 3-2 Hakoah Sydney City East, 1.00pm at Cromer Park
Manly United edged Hakoah Sydney City East 3-2 in a goal fest at Cromer Park in a result that sees Andrew Christiansen’s side return to the top of the table.
Goals from Henry Gallagher, Nathan Sim and Edward Rinaldi were the difference for the hosts whilst it was a familiar story on the Hakoah Sydney City East scoresheet with Harry Jones and Emilio Manos both finding the net for the second week running.
After a hugely promising start to the season Hakoah are now without a win in three and with Sydney Olympic, Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Rockdale City Suns only a point behind another slip up for the league newcomers could prove costly.
Blacktown City 0-4 Bonnyrigg White Eagles, 1.00pm at Lilys Football Centre
Bonnyrigg White Eagles inflicted one of the standout results of the season with a crushing 4-0 away defeat of reigning champions Blacktown City.
Stephen Sigmund’s side ran riot at Lilys Football Centre with Jake Douglas, Hayden Tucker, Andre Guzman and Martin Lo all among the scorers.
The result sees the side climb to seventh in the ladder and after a slow start to the season back to back wins has Bonnyrigg’s campaign well and truly up and running.
APIA Leichhart Tigers 0-2 Wollongong Wolves, 2.15pm at Lambert Park
Wollongong Wolves made it three wins in a row after defeating APIA Leichhardt Tigers 2-0 at Lambert Park.
Goals to Justin Ivanovic and Steven Hristovski made it easy work for Alfredo Esteves’ side who now find themselves in third position following a run of formidable form.
After securing a point against Hakoah Sydney City East in their return to action last weekend, Danial Cummins’ APIA remain in tenth position above Sydney United 58 and Parramatta.

Red hot Sydney United 58 put Olympic to the sword
A brace from Panni Nikas has earned Sydney United 58 a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Sydney Olympic in its PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday.
The former Central Coast and North Queensland Fury man enjoyed a sterling performance and was at the forefront of the action all afternoon, winning an early penalty which was duly converted by Chris Payne.
Nikas struck a double blow in the second half to make it four wins on the trot for Mark Rudan’s men, but it could’ve been a different story without goalkeeper Thomas Manos who pulled off a string of fine saves to hold the visitors at bay.
The home side ran riot in a frantic opening to the match that saw Olympic concede an early penalty when a rampaging Nikas was sandwiched by Olympic centre-halves Anthony Tomelic and Leigh Egger inside the box.
Chris Payne stepped up to the spot and confidently dispatched the spot kick into the bottom left corner.
The onslaught on the Olympic goal continued after the resulting kick off with Nikola Taneski denied by the foot of the post while Nikas was miraculously kept out by a combination of Henderson and Egger.
The visitors had several chances to equalise United 58 custodian Manos was too good as he denied Harris Gaitatzis twice in quick succession.
Taneski should’ve doubled his side’s advantage on the cusp of half-time when the attacker found himself one on one with Henderson after pouncing on an Olympic error.
However, Taneski clipped his effort over the bar much to the relief of the travelling faithful.
The miss wouldn’t come back to haunt the home side, with Nikas doubling Sydney United 58’s advantage shortly after the halftime interval.
It was a superb show of individual brilliance from Nikas who slalomed past two Olympic defenders on the byline before lashing home into the bottom left corner to make it two-nil.
Although Olympic responded with Chris Triantis forcing Manos into another fingertip save, the hosts would solidify their grasp on the match on the hour mark with Nikas hammering home a three goal advantage from the penalty spot after a foul on Taneski.
The three-goal deficit proved terminal for Grant Lee’s side, and although the Olympic coach was content with the amount of opportunities his team created throughout the ninety minutes, he lamented his side’s naivety in the concession of two penalties.
“It was soft on our behalf,” he said.
“We were putting them under pressure and creating good opportunities and then we went to sleep and conceded two sloppy goals
“We’ve got young kids at the back and sometimes our decision making wasn’t right but you’ve got to learn very quickly”.
Sydney United 58 manager Mark Rudan said he was pleased with his side’s fourth win on the trot but wasn’t getting carried away.
“There’s still a long way to go,” he said.
“I’m very pleased with the amount of chances we’re creating week by week and especially with our third clean sheet in a row.

Round 5 Review – PS4 NPL NSW Men’s
Who will stop Blacktown City? That is the question being asked around the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition after Round 5 action wrapped up on Sunday.
Blacktown’s miraculous 2-1 win against Bonnyrigg was a sight to behold and was the Mark Crittenden coached side’s second Houdini like escape of the season.
It wasn’t the only big match in Round 5 with plenty of exciting action taking place around the grounds
Match of the Round
Blacktown City FC 2 – Bonnyrigg White Eagles 1 at Lily’s Football Park
BLACKTOWN City has cemented its status as the comeback kings of the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition after a heart stopping 2-1 win against Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Lily’s Football Centre on Saturday.
Two goals to super-sub Patrick Antelmi in the final minute of the match helped the Seven Hills based side snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and maintain its perfect start to the season.
It was a match which featured plenty of drama including a first half red card to Bonnyrigg’s Robbie Younis but it was the incredible concluding stages which will have fans talking for weeks.
Aaron Peterson’s 35th minute strike was seemingly enough for Bonnyrigg to edge their way to victory but it wasn’t to be for Brian Brown’s men as Blacktown made yet another Houdini like escape.
Sutherland Sharks 2 – Parramatta FC 0 at Seymour Shaw
Parramatta FC has succumbed to its third straight loss as two late goals helped Sutherland Sharks collect a 2-0 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition win at Seymour Shaw on Saturday.
Strikes to Josh Da Silva and Jordan Figon helped the home side to its first win since round one ending a three game losing streak.
It was a hard loss to stomach for Parramatta who threatened for most of the match but were let down by a brief drop in concentration.
Sutherland’s goal keeper Nikolas Loe was a star performer on debut and denied Parramatta time and time again.
Blacktown Spartans 2 – Rockdale City Suns 4 at Blacktown Football Park
A brace to Alec Urosevski has helped Rockdale to a comprehensive 4-2 win in its PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash with Blacktown Spartans at Blacktown Football Park on Saturday.
A strong showing from the dynamic Toufic Alameddine helped power the Suns to a thoroughly deserved victory with the midfielder combining with Urosevski and Mcallister on the scoresheet to guide the visitors to victory.
Goals to Anthony Proia and Amaury Gaulthier kept the scoreline respectable for Blacktown.
It was another poor performance at home from Ben De Haan’s Spartan side which will desperately need to cure its bad case of the yips when playing in its own backyard.
Manly United FC 3 – Hakoah Sydney City East 1 at Cromer Park
MANLY United turned on the style at Cromer Park, beating competition newcomers Hakoah Sydney City East 3-1 on Sunday.
Goals to Luke Giverin, Travis Oughted and Dejan Pandurevic were enough for Manly to claim all three points.
Hussein Akli’s 82nd minute goal ensured Hakoah found their way onto the score sheet while Manly keeper Dylan Mitchell showed off his skills when he saved a Lee Jones penalty.
It was a much needed win for Paul Dee’s Manly side after a run of early season defeats.
APIA Leichhardt Tigers 0 – Wollongong Wolves 1 at Lambert Park
Wollongong Wolves returned to the winners circle with a hard fought 1-0 win against a ten man APIA Leichhardt tigers in its PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Lambert Park on Sunday.
Sam Matthews first half strike was enough for Jacob Timpano’s side to secure all three points away from home.
A red card to Themba Muata-Marlow reduced APIA to 10 men after 60 minutes and the home side struggled to find its way back into the match.
Ryan Norval ensured APIA had a fighting chance with a save from the penalty spot but it proved too much of a challenge as the visitors secured a well earned win.
Sydney United 58 3 – Sydney Olympic 0 at Sydney United Football Centre
The win cement’s United 58’s second spot on the ladder and extends their run to four wins as well as their third straight clean sheet.
Goals galore as Suns shine over Spartans
A brace to Alec Urosevski has helped Rockdale to a comprehensive 4-2 win in its PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash with Blacktown Spartans at Blacktown Football Park on Saturday.
A strong showing from the dynamic Toufic Alameddine helped power the Suns to a thoroughly deserved victory.
A goal in the opening exchanges for Rockdale’s Dylan Macallister dealt an early blow to Spartans, who were looking to put a poor home record behind them.
A foul in the 18-yard box presented the Rockdale veteran with an easy task, and he delivered perfectly after only two minutes.
Spartans’ midfielder Jacob Ott was switched on early and provided plenty of good ball to his wingers.
For Rockdale, Alameddine continued his strong run of form with a dominant presence on the wing.
The Rockdale attack continued to pressure after its early goal as Spartan’s goalkeeper Carlos Saliadarre was called on time after time in the home net.
Slick passing from Rockdale in the 18th minute looked certain to result in a goal but a brilliant save from Saliadarre denied the visitors from doubling their lead.
A fantastic shot in the 24th minute from Jacob Ott from beyond the 18-yard box looked set to sail into the top corner, if not for Rockdale’s David Bradesevic.
Apart from Ott’s strike, the Spartan attack couldn’t find its rhythm in the first half.
But against the run of play in the 34th minute, Blacktown opened its account when Anthony Proia hit the back of the net after a fine assist from Ott.
With the score at 1-1, Proia should have put Spartans in front a minute later but he failed to finish off a good low cross.
Rockdale’s strikers pressed aggressively in the closing stages of the half and were soon rewarded when Urosevski scored after a good passage of play down the left wing.
On the stroke of half-time Alameddine extended the visitors lead to 3-1.
Alec Urosevski provided Rockdale with the perfect start to the second half when he collected his second goal of the night in the 48th minute.
Alameddine almost bagged himself a brace in the 50th minute but his close-range shot was well saved by Saliadarre.
The Spartan midfield began to lose its shape as the half progressed
After a Spartan’s corner was cleared in the 55th minute, Rockdale went on an attacking raid down left wing, led by Alameddine, which saw him cut back in and shoot just wide.
Ott did his best to spark Blacktown, controlling the midfield brilliantly when the Spartans were in possession.
With the hour mark ticking over, Rockdale began to relax in defence and the Spartans began to take advantage.
A clinical play down the left edge presented a brilliant chance for Proia but he shot over the bar.
A substitution in the 84th minute had an immediate impact for the home team as Amaury Gauthier took to the field.
After he positioned himself well in the penalty area, Gauthier latched onto a good cross as his header sailed past the arms of Bradesevic to make it 4-2.
However the lead proved too big to reel in as Rockdale comfortably secured the three points with a 4-2 win.
Spartans coach Ben Da Haan was left to rue a drop in intensity in the first half that saw his side slip to a half-time deficit.
“Conceding a penalty in the first two minutes meant we were chasing the game straight away,” he said.
“Towards the end of the half we lost concentration and then to concede two in a row before halftime made it hard to come back in the second half.
“At the end of the day, I’ve got a young squad and they [Rockdale] have a seasoned squad, so we need to work on that. It looks like we’re tougher away than we are at home.”
Meanwhile, Rockdale’s Paul Reid was pleased with the performance but was disappointed with the second-half performance.
“Obviously happy to pick up the three points – we started off really well which we couldn’t do last week,” he said.
“We were looking comfortable but we let Blacktown back in the game. It was good to get those two late goals in the first half.
“If we’d finished the game 4-1 it would have been a really great result, but 4-2 is not as convincing. We can improve and the boys know that.”

Eagles stutter as Sharks triumph
Parramatta FC has succumbed to its third straight loss as two late goals helped Sutherland Sharks collect a 2-0 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition win at Seymour Shaw on Saturday.
Strikes to Josh Da Silva and Jordan Figon helped the home side to its first win since round one ending a three game losing streak.
It was a hard loss to stomach for Parramatta who threatened for most of the match but were let down by a brief drop in concentration.
The visitors started the match with intent and in the eleventh minute a great shot by Daniel Rezo from just outside the box was turned over the crossbar brilliantly by Sutherland’s debutant goalkeeper Nikolas Loe.
The reply was almost immediate from the Sharks when a free kick from the right reached Nicholas Littler who struck a sweet volley only to be met by Luke Turnbull in the Parramatta FC goal.
In the 29th minute a wonderful strike by Tomohiro Kajiyama of the Sharks from well outside the box just shaved the crossbar but it would have a great goal had it been a fraction lower.
Parramatta FC went back up the other end a few minutes later when Rezo fired over the crossbar but it would be one of few chances before both teams went into the break locked at 0-0
The second half started like a game of chess as both sides gave little away in a tight midfield contest
The first real salvo of the second stanza occurred in the 67th minute when Kajiyama fired just wide of the mark for the home side.
Sutherland Sharks opened the scoring in the 71st minute when a cross from the left was slightly deflected but fell to Joshua Da Silva who drove it brilliantly into the back of the net much to the delight of the home fans.
Three minutes later Sutherland were down to ten men when Lukas Stergiou was sent off for his second yellow card of the night.
In and act of frustration, Stergiou kicked the ball away after he had been booked moments earlier
In the 75th minute Parramatta FC could have equalised when Gosue Sama’s shot was cleared off the line
A tough tackle from Tomislav Mijic earned the Parramatta FC player an early shower after he was sent off for a second bookable offence.
In the 83rd minute a free kick by David Rezo was pure class.
It curled over the wall and was destined to finish in the top left hand corner of the net but Loe was able to turn it beautifully over the crossbar for a corner.
In stoppage time, after a great goal-mouth scramble, Ibrahim Haydar should really have equalised for the visitors but Loe got down well to pull off another miraculous save.
The ball went up the other end of the field and Jordan Figon did all the hard work before a clinical finish in front of goal to make it 2-0 for the Sharks.
After the game coach Carlos Villazon was happy his side was able to find its shooting boots.
“Look, I am very happy with the result because in the last few games we played really good football but in the front third chances went missing,” he said.
“Today I thought that it was good football from our players.
“My idea is to always play attacking football with a lot of penetration through the wide areas.”
When asked about his debutant goalkeeper Loe, Villazon was very forthcoming.
“After three losses in a row, I decided to change goalkeepers and that’s the reason and he had a good game tonight.”
Parramatta FC coach Franco Cosentino was upset that his team had failed to come away with any points after a promising and gritty display.
“For the last three weeks it has been the same story but, at the end of the day, we deserved the three points,” he said.
“We did everything right and we had all the chances but we didn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“There were four occasions when their goalkeeper came up with good saves. I am disappointed to have conceded after a free-kick and it hurts that key moments in the game go like that.”
