After every round of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Men’s season Team of the Week brings to focus the best players from that weekend.
A high-scoring affair in Sutherland saw Rockdale striker Dylan Macallister bag a hat-trick in the 4-2 win for the visitors. After withstanding a barrage of Shark attacking raids early on, it was Macallister who opened the scoring in the closing stages of the first half. Proving to be one of this season’s goal magnets, Macalister powered up a gear in the second term with a deft chip over the Sutherland goalkeeper. The former Hyundi A-League player completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute after pouncing on a great cross to seal the result and pick-up man-of-the-match honours.
Spartans couldn’t keep pace with an unstoppable Blacktown City outfit in a fiery yet one-sided local derby clash. City again proved why they have one of the most dangerous attacks in the competition, with their wingers and strikers having a field day in the 6-0 rout. Mitchell Mallia ran riot down the left edge, consistently weaving into space. After setting up the opening goal in the 2nd minute, Mallia got his own name on the scorers sheet with a well-deserved goal just before half-time. A quick-fire second-half brace from Patrick Antemli topped off an excellent day for City. The former Leeds and Wigan striker scored a wonderful goal that curled into the net before outclassing the Spartan defense to snag City’s sixth.
In a goal-fest at Melita Staidum, the Parramatta home side couldn’t keep pace with Hakoah. In a free-flowing game it was Hakaoh’s control of the midfield that ultimately won them the game, with a brilliant display from the experienced Paul Orgad. The veteran mid-fielder was the engine room for the Hakoah attack, even netting a goal himself in the 60th minute. For Parramatta, Gosue Sama impressed in a spirited first-half effort that saw him nail a spectacular header to level the scores before the break. However the striker couldn’t inspire his team to a win, going down 4-2.
A stellar all-round effort from defender Jacob Tratt lifted Sydney United 58 to a 2-1 win over Bonnyrigg. The former young Sydney FC recruit was hugely impressive in a tight affair, and showed glimpse of talent early on as his side struggled to get a shot past White Eagles ‘keeper James Chronopoulos. Despite their dominance, the United 58 attack was undone by some desperate leaps from Chronopoulos, tapping away some great shots. Panni Nikas was relentless in attack for United 58, constantly testing Chronopoulos in an intense battle. With only a one-goal buffer in the dying stages of the first half, it was Tratt who stepped up for his team. A superb cross from Nikas found its way to the youngster, who hit a beautiful strike from the edge of the area to give United 58 a hard-fought 2-0 lead. Despite a late fight back in the second half from Bonnyrigg, it was United 58 who took the spoils with an entertaining 2-1 win.
Manly Untied secured a tough win over APIA with a spirited comeback. The home side was indebted to a backline led by Luke Giverin and Keiran Paull, who showed class and determination to spark the epic 3-2 win. Giverin got the best possible start with a lovely goal in the 2nd minute. The former Manchester United youth player seemed to be everywhere as he provided stability in defense but also found time to challenge the opposition shot stopper. Man-of-the-match Keiran Paull was a rock in the backline, but was also clinical in attack as his pressure frustrated APIA into fouling the defender in the penalty area. With Brendan Cholakian’s spot kick finding the net, it sent the Manly crowd into frenzy.
A scoreless draw between Wollongong and Sydney Olympic provided some exciting thrills in the closing stages. Bailing Wollongong out of trouble on numerous occasions, Kota Kawase showed enormous stamina to continually foil Olympic’s attack. The Japanese defender left nothing in the tank and as the clock ran down, he came up with the highlight of the day. The Wolves defender threw his body in front of a Howard Fondyke strike that went like a bullet, blocking the shot that ultimately proved to be the final chance of the match.

Round 9 Review – PS4 NPL NSW Men’s
After nine rounds Sydney United 58 leads the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s competition but with just over half the season to play anything could happen before the finals series.
There were goals galore this weekend with 26 scored across six matches highlighted by Blacktown City’s six goal domination of rivals Blacktown Spartans.
The competition leaders hosted this week’s match of the round against traditional rivals Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
Match of the Round
Sydney United 58 2 – Bonnyrigg White Eagles 1 at Sydney United Sports Centre.
Sydney United 58 FC came away with an important 2-1 victory against neighbours Bonnyrigg White Eagles in the PlayStation®4 NSW NPL at a hazy Sydney United Sports Centre on Mother’s Day.
Two first half goals from Chris Payne and new recruit Jacob Tratt were enough to get United 58 FC over the line despite the White Eagles coming back strong in the second half.
As expected it was a torrid affair with neither side giving as much as an inch.
Despite the home side leading by two goals at half time, Robbie Younis lead a comeback for Bonnyrigg but it was not enough as Mark Rudan’s United 58 clung on for victory.
Saturday
Sutherland Sharks FC 2 – Rockdale City Suns 4 at Seymour Shaw
A Dylan Macallister hat-trick has helped Rockdale City Suns to a comprehensive 4-2 victory against Sutherland Sharks in its PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Seymour Shaw on Saturday.
Macallister’s three goals and a strike from Toufic Allameddine were enough for the Suns to secure all three points away from home.
James Andrew and Tomihiro Kajiyama managed to hit the back of the net for the home side but it wasn’t enough to get the better of a well drilled Rockdale outfit.
Blacktown City FC 6 – Blacktown Spartans 0 at Lily’s Football Centre
It was six of the best for a rampant Blacktown City as Mark Crittenden’s side defeated a sorry Blacktown Spartans outfit 6-0 in itsPlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Lily’s Football Centre.
The visiting Spartans had lost seven of their last eight league matches against their fierce local rivals prior to kickoff and the wait for victory will go on after the visitors were outclassed by their premiership-chasing neighbours.
It was all one way traffic as goals to Joey Gibbs, Roberto Speranza, Danny Choi, Mitchell Mallia and a brace to Patrick Antelmi ensure all three points for City.
Blacktown Spartans offered little resistance as the club’s tough season continues.
Parramatta FC 2 – Hakoah Sydney City East 4 at Melita Stadium
Hakoah Sydney City East put four goals past Parramatta FC to secure a 4-2 win in its Round 9 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Melita Stadium on Saturday.
The home side dominated play in the first half but Hakoah Sydney City East came out firing in the second.
Hakoah took control of the game and, with three goals in a short space of time, put the game out of Parramatta FC’s reach before a beautiful late goal added some respectability to the score line for the home side.
An early goal to Paul Orgad had the visitors in front after only seven minutes but scores were back at 1-1 after Gosue Sama struck for Parramatta in the 33rd minute.
Goals to Neil Jablonksi, Andre De Jong and Akil Hussein in the space of 15 minutes gifted Hakoah the match before Parramatta’s Luke Grima hit the back of the net for a consolation goal in the dying stages of the clash.
Sunday
Manly United 3 – APIA Leichhardt Tigers 2 at Cromer Park
MANLY United showed tremendous fighting spirit to beat APIA Leichhardt 3-2 on Sunday at Cromer Park.
Paul Dee’s side fought back from 2-1 down mid-way through the second half to claim its fourth win of the season.
Luke Giverin gave Manly the lead after two minutes but his strike was cancelled out when Brad Bartels and Adrian Vlastelica scored to give APIA the lead with 25 minutes left on the clock.
However, it wasn’t to be APIA’s day as Sam Gallagher and Brendan Cholakian fired home in the dying stages to snatch victory.
Sydney Olympic 0 – Wollongong Wolves 0 at Lambert Park
Sydney Olympic and Wollongong Wolves walked away with a point each after a dire 0-0 draw during their PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Lambert Park on Sunday afternoon.
Despite both sides dominating parts of the match they could not create a clear cut chance to break the deadlock.
Wollongong’s Nicholas Bernal and Olympic’s Oliver Green were the players most likely to break the deadlock but both teams spurned chance after chance with the match finishing scoreless.
Round 9 Review – PS4 NPL NSW Men’s U20s
There is a new leader in the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s U20 competition with Blacktown City hitting the lead after an emphatic Blacktown derby victory.
Meanwhile, Bonnyrigg White Eagles and APIA Leichhardt continue their superb recent form with wins over Sydney United 58 and Manly United, whilst Parramatta edged Hakoah Sydney City East to breathe new life into their season.
The Match of the Round was at Lambert Park where Sydney Olympic hosted Wollongong Wolves.
Match of the Round
Sydney Olympic 1-1 Wollongong Wolves, Sunday 1.00pm at Lambert Park
Ethan Kambisios snatched a late equalizer for Wollongong Wolves as they held Sydney Olympic to a gritty 1-1 draw at Lambert Park.
Olympic looked to have secured an important victory when Michael Loupis confidently scored from the spot late in the second half but Kambisios’ efforts salvaged a hard-earned point for Alfredo Esteves men in a result that sees both outfits remain well poised for a place in the top six as the season nears ever closer to the halfway mark.
It was a frustrating afternoon for both sides who offered an uncharacteristic lack of conviction in the final third despite a creating catalogue of opportunities.
There was plenty at stake as both fields took to the field with both outfits looking for a win to cement their finals credentials, but the match began on a sombre note as the two sides observed a moments silence for former Sydney Olympic goalkeeper Stefan Petrovski who passed away in tragic circumstances last week.
Fittingly, the first half was highlighted by the performances of both gloveman at either end, with Olympic shot-stopper Denver Crickmore and Wollongong custodian Daniel Collison offering a string of excellent saves to keep scores level.
The pick of the bunch was offered by Collison, who miraculously denied Olympic’s James Combes midway through the first half with a stunning reflex save from after the ball dropped to the centre-half on the volley inside the penalty area.
The Olympic skipper was equally sharp at the opposite end in containing the considerable threat of Wollongong forward Ricky Zucco.
The bustling striker proved to be a handful for the Olympic rearguard until his withdrawal, and he saw an early snapshot excellently parried by Crickmore and an ambitious bicycle kick fall onto the roof of the net.
With nothing to separate the two sides at the break it was Collison who came to the fore for Wollongong again to deny Olympic winger Aidan Taouil from opening the scoring when found unmarked at the back post.
It looked as though set-pieces would prove crucial to breaking the deadlock and Wollongong’s Joshua Orchard will lament a slew of chances that fell to the Wolves defender from a succession of corners.
Olympic eventually made the breakthrough on the counter attack when 15-year-old substitute Ali Dulleh was felled by Collison inside the box.
Michael Loupis, who turned in another fine performance at the pointy end of the Olympic frontline, hammered home from the spot to put John Theodoropoulos’ side in front.
The lead didn’t last long for the hosts and Wollongong found an instant reply through Kambisios who applied a delicate finish past Crickmore to restore parity.
Olympic had chances to steal it at the end through Loupis’ optimistic effort from range and were denied a last-gasp penalty after the attacker made a trademark dash in between defenders, but both sides were unable to be separated.
Olympic manager John Theodoropoulos rued the concession of the late equalizer but insisted his young side had proven their mettle in a physical encounter at Lambert Park and reflected on his side’s newfound defensive resilience.
“To concede the equalizer was very frustrating but I’m making sure that we don’t concede as easily and we’ve improved our defending in the past two weeks.
“I thought (the second penalty claim) was more of a penalty than the first one, but at the end of the day we had to field a very young side today so I’m happy with our performance”.

Sutherland Sharks 2-1 Rockdale City Suns, 4.30pm at Seymour Shaw
Sutherland Sharks secured back to back victories for the first time since round three after defeating Rockdale City Suns 2-1 at Seymour Shaw.
Allan Edmondson’s side opened the scoring through Jeremy Cox before Rockdale equalized through a deflected free-kick midway through the second half.
But Patrick O’Shea’s penalty was the difference between the two sides, with the midfielder’s late winner pushing Sutherland into fifth position.
Rockdale’s fifth defeat in a row leaves the side propping up the bottom of the table in eleventh position with finals hopes beginning to fade.
Blacktown City 4-1 Blacktown Spartans, 5.00pm at Lilys Football Centre
A peerless second half showing from Blacktown City paved way to a 4-1 derby defeat of Blacktown Spartans at Lilys Football Centre.
Nothing separated the sides for much of the game but the hosts seized control midway through the second half through Jonathan Grozdanovski’s double and goals to George Firth and Lewis Beumie.
Although the Spartans netted a solitary goal their grip on their top six berth grows ever frailer following a third defeat in their last four games.
It couldn’t be more opposed to their suburban rivals who now sit top of the table with a resounding fourth victory in a row and courtesy of Manly United’s home defeat to APIA Leichhardt.
Parramatta 3-2 Hakoah Sydney City East, 5.00pm at Melita Stadium
Parramatta prevailed in a 3-2 thriller over Hakoah Sydney City East in a result that sees Mark Zecchin’s side leapfrog Sydney United 58 and Rockdale City Suns at the foot of the table.
It was a topsy turvy encounter at Melita Stadium with Hakoah’s Emilio Manos and Domenic Cutri cancelling out a Nicholas Chymiak brace before Paul Katsetis snatched a huge late winner.
Hakoah’s slide continues – the Hensley Athletic Field outfit have lost four of their last five and are now just three points ahead of Saturday’s victors Parramatta in ninth.
Sunday
Sydney United 58 0-1 Bonnyrigg White Eagles, 12.00pm at Sydney United Sports Centre
Bonnyrigg White Eagles continued their impressive ascension up the table with a 1-0 victory over Sydney United 58 at Sydney United Sports Centre.
Stephen Sigmund’s men are now in fourth position having secured five excellent wins from their last six and they had Dalibor Malesevic to thank for scoring a crucial goal in a heated derby encounter.
Sydney United 58 remain rooted to the bottom of the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Men’s U20 table following their sixth loss of the campaign.
Manly United 0-2 APIA Leichhardt Tigers, 1.00pm at Cromer Park
APIA Leichhardt stunned Manly United at Cromer Park with a striking 2-0 victory that sees Andrew Christiansen’s side overtaken by Blacktown City at the top of the PlayStation 4 NPL NSW Men’s U20 table.
Duncan Stewart’s sixth goal of the season and Kenta Hasegawa’s effort consigned Manly United to their second defeat of the campaign and continues APIA Leichhardt’s noteworthy momentum – the side from Lambert Park have now won four wins on the trot in their march to third position, lying three points below Manly United in second position.

Olympic and Wolves share the spoils
Sydney Olympic and Wollongong Wolves walked away with a point each after a dire 0-0 draw during their PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash at Lambert Park on Sunday afternoon.
Despite both sides dominating parts of the match with the Wolves Nicholas Bernal and Olympic’s Oliver Green the most dangerous men, they could not create a clear cut chance to break the deadlock.
Sydney Olympic started the match on the back foot and they almost paid for it in the fifth minute.
As the Blues failed to clear a throw in, Wolves midfielder Samuel Matthews crept into the box getting to volley the ball goal bound, only for a defender to deflect the ball over the bar and out for a corner.
Four minutes later Olympic were again thanking their lucky stars when Mitchell Stamatellis’ attempted header back to his keeper fell way short of its mark allowing a flying Nicholas Bernal through on goal. With only the keeper to beat Bernal took his shot early with Paul Henderson easily claiming the ball.
The early nerves settled for Olympic as they started to get into the match and created a chance of their own on the 12 minutes when Green sent an inch-perfect ball into the box from the left finding Adrian Vranic. Unfortunately for the home side the striker’s first touch let him down with the ball going out for a goal kick.
Vranic turned provider in the 17th minute, receiving a ball from Brayden Sorge and laying off to Harris Gaitatzis who dribbled to the edge of the box before a deflected shot was easily saved by Justin Pasfield.
Olympic kept the pressure on the visitors, moving the ball around the park with aplomb leading to an advancing Jason Madonis pulling the trigger in the 24th minute, only for his effort to go wide.
Bernal remained a constant threat in front of goal for Wollongong however and in the 30th minute the striker had another chance to open the scoring from the edge of the box, this time forcing a better save out of Henderson.
James Baldachino found himself almost through on goal just two minutes later as he dribbled through the middle of the park linking up with two teammates before Olympic centre back Anthony Tomelic sped across to clear.
Green started to dictate play for Olympic in the centre of the park again and in the 37th minute sent a fantastic through ball to William Angel on the left hand side. The winger took a touch before his pin point cross found Vranic whose header hit the side of the net.
The midfielder was in the thick of the action just three minutes later, playing a great one-two with an advancing Madonis with the defender’s shot tipped around the post by a diving Pasfield.
Both sides came out of the break at a blistering pace attempting to counter on every occasion possible but unable to get a clear strike on target.
Henderson was called into action in the 61st minute when a Ben Zucco free kick curled goal bound forcing the keeper into a smart save, tapping the ball out for a corner.
Sydney Olympic’s chances became all the more difficult one minute later when they were reduced to 10 men after Oliver Green was shown a straight red card for dissent.
Wollongong smelt blood and could have taken the lead in the 68th minute after Henderson’s poor clearance fell straight to the chest of Darcy Madden. The attacker brought the ball down before switching the ball to the left and an oncoming Peter Simonovski who took a touch before his poor shot was well saved by a thankful Henderson.
Despite the disadvantage the Blues started playing football like they were a man up with 20 minutes remaining.
In the 76th minute they found space on the right with Brayden Sorge dribbling the ball into the box with his rocketing shot fantastically saved by Pasfield.
The onslaught continued four minutes later as a Harris Gaitatzis’ free kick found a free Anthony Tomelic only for his header to float wide.
With six minutes remaining Michael Gaitatzis had a great opportunity to score but his free kick curled over the wall and out for a goal kick.
Kota Kawase was the hero in the final minutes of play as the defender threw himself towards the ball to block a cracking Howard Fondyke volley out for a corner to end the game a stalemate.
Following the match Wollongong Wolves head coach Jacob Timpano said he was disappointed not to take the three points back to the South Coast.
“Away from home I suppose you take a point but in the context of the game, especially in the first half I think we really dominated and really should have taken something into the break,” he said.
“We did have some decent chances, but I said to my staff as the send off happened that it is the worst thing that could have happened for us because mentally the attitude of players changes against 10 men.
“Overall they’re a good side and we will take the point but we are a little bit disappointed not to take the three.”
In the home dressing room Sydney Olympic coach Grant Lee said he was pleased with his side’s effort.
“It took us a while to get into the game, the first half an hour was a bit ordinary,” he said.
“We were very deep and it invited trouble on us, we moved the ball very slowly. But then after that for the last 15 of the first half and the second half we did really well.
“We moved it, pushed it and put them under enormous pressure. We went down to 10 men and still took the game to them and had multiple opportunities.
“So in that sense it is encouraging. We’ve been getting better and better every week with our mentality and today was just another good test.”

Manly spirit sinks APIA
MANLY United showed tremendous fighting spirit to beat APIA Leichhardt 3-2 on Sunday at Cromer Park.
In what was a see sawing PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s encounter, the home side took the lead after just two minutes.
Adam Parkhouse whipped in a ball to the far post from the left which Brendan Cholakian let bounce.
Eventually the ball was fed into Luke Giverin’s path, and the Manchester United youth player side footed home with aplomb.
United were up for the task and on 12′ minutes Cholakian almost doubled their lead, but his effort flashed just wide.
APIA eventually woke from their slumber thanks to a lung busting run from Sean Symons on the 16th minute mark.
It didn’t result in a goal, but after 19 minutes the Tigers did find the back of the net.
Evergreen APIA playmaker Franco Parisi started the move and it was finished by Brad Bartels.
Parisi, the Tigers long term number 10, fed Japanese import Tasuku Sekiya.
He in turn released Bartels, who produced a stunning finish from an acute angle which United gloveman Dylan Mitchell was never going to stop.
With 32 minutes played Mitchell had the home supporters feeling frantic after he air swung a back pass.
Luckily teammate Rhys Williams was on hand to bail him out, as it could have been one of the bloopers of the season.
Givern then almost grabbed his second with 37 minutes on the clock, but his left foot drive sailed wide of the target.
On 62 minutes the visitors went up 2-1, against the run of play.
A corner saw Adrian Vlastelica unmarked at the far post and he didn’t need a second invitation, heading home from six yards.
Previous Manly teams would have rolled over, but Paul Dee’s men never know when they are beaten in 2016.
After Giverin lashed another drive wide on 74′ minutes, seconds later United squared proceedings at 2-2.
Giverin hit a pinpoint corner to the near post and Sam Gallagher reacted first, with the defender’s header at the near post missile-esque.
United then won the game thanks to a late penalty.
Half time substitute Corey Biczo fouled right back Kieren Paull inside the box, and the striker was then sent off for his second yellow ticket.
With plenty on the line, Cholakian showed nerves of steel, composing himself to send Ryan Norval the wrong way and secure another three points for the hosts.
"The result shows the determination we have among the playing group,” the United skipper and penalty hero said post game.
"I thought it was thoroughly deserved, we knew APIA would be physical, they tend to try and foul teams out of games.
"We knew if we stuck to the task we would be in a position to outplay them and our fitness would also be a factor.
"This should be a big turning point, it gives us a nice buffer from the chasing pack mid-table."
Parisi was a frustrated figure at the final whistle.
"We can take plenty out of the game, despite the end result,” he said.
"Being up 2-1 we should have closed it out, but we weren’t good enough.
"We didn’t absorb pressure well, but credit to Manly, they are fit, organised and kept coming at us."
